Forks don’t last forever. Over time, daily wear, overloading, and minor warehouse bumps weaken the steel. Inspecting your forks daily helps prevent snapped blades, dropped loads, and costly injuries.

8 Signs It’s Time for New Forks

1. **Surface Cracks or Gouges:** Any visible cracks or gouges, especially near the heel or welds, mean immediate retirement.
2. **Thickness (10% Rule):** A 10% drop in blade thickness slashes load capacity by 20%.
3. **Off-Angles:** If the blade-to-shank angle exceeds 93°, the fork's structural integrity is gone.
4. **Bent Steel:** Replace forks if they bow more than 0.5% of the blade length.
5. **Uneven Tip Heights:** Noticeable height gaps between tips make loads unstable and unsafe.
6. **Faulty Positioning Locks:** Broken or missing retention pins allow forks to slide off the carriage.
7. **Damaged Hooks:** Excessive play or wear on mounting hooks compromises stability.
8. **Faded Capacity Stamps:** If the stamped rating is no longer legible, the forks automatically fail inspection.

2. Lifting beyond rated load capacity
3. Using single-fork lifting chains or unbalanced attachments
